Monica Chen

She/Her

Born in Belgium to Taiwanese parents, Monica Chen is a writer and trekker whose work explores the "unmaking" of the self through folklore and natural fantasy. Drawing from the eerie, rural myths of Yanagita’s The Legends of Tono and the dramatic pulse of the theater, she captures the tension between cultural heritage and the wild unknown. Her prose is forged on the trail, inspired by transformative leaps of faith across the Camino de Santiago and the Kumano Kodo. Monica seeks the ancient, "unspeakable" songs buried in the soil, inviting readers to leave their names behind and find belonging in the mountain's memory.
